This project was developed because a group of physicians could not lease an appropriate space for their orthopedic surgery center in the Prince Frederick area. Laurel Design Alliance, Inc. assisted the physicians by providing design studies before they acquired a 1.64 acre site in proximity to the hospital for this project.
The two storied building accommodates the needs of the surgery center on the main floor, and comprises of an operating room, procedure rooms, pre-op and post-op areas and full compliment of ancillary support functions for a surgery center.
The plan for the facility is dictated by the site constraints and the functional needs of the surgery center practice. Provision is been kept in the design for the accommodation of additional operating room to expand practice if there is a need for the larger work load.
The first floor windows are placed at higher elevation to provide privacy for the patients who are on stretcher in post op holding areas. The upper floor ribbon windows provide abundance of natural light and flexibility for the leasable office spaces.
The large twenty feet high canopy provides an inviting entrance and can accommodate ambulances and emergency vehicles with adequate clearance. The canopy emphasizes the main entrance while sheltering patients and visitors.
